Please include your phone model, Android version and the app version (Settings → About in Memoshot). In the app, Settings → Send feedback fills these in for you.

Common questions

Why are some screenshots not searchable yet?

Screenshots are read in the background in small batches. A large library can take a while the first time; the progress is shown in Settings under Indexing. If you turned on “Read older screenshots only while charging”, older ones are read while the phone charges.

Why doesn’t it find text in my language?

Version 1 recognizes Latin-script text only. Text in other scripts, such as Bangla, Arabic, Hindi or Chinese, can’t be searched yet.

A screenshot is in the wrong category

Open it, tap the category label and pick the right one. Your choice is kept, even when the automatic sorting improves.

Does Memoshot upload my screenshots?

No. Everything is read and stored on your phone. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what uses the internet.

Background reading stops on my phone

Some phones stop apps in the background to save battery, which pauses reading new screenshots until you open Memoshot. To let it work:

  • Any phone: Android Settings → Apps → Memoshot → Battery (or App battery usage) → choose Unrestricted or Don’t optimize.
  • Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO (MIUI / HyperOS): Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Memoshot → turn on Autostart, and set Battery saver to No restrictions.
  • Samsung (One UI): Settings → Battery → Background usage limits → make sure Memoshot is not in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps; you can add it to Never sleeping apps.
  • OPPO, realme, OnePlus (ColorOS): Settings → Apps → Memoshot → Battery usage → allow background activity and auto launch.
  • vivo, Huawei, Honor: look for Background power consumption, App launch or Battery optimization for Memoshot and allow it to run in the background.

Menu names differ between versions. The independent guide at dontkillmyapp.com has steps for most brands; the app links to it from Settings → “Indexing seems slow?”.

Photo access and permission changes

  • Nothing shows up: Android Settings → Apps → Memoshot → Permissions → Photos and videos → Allow all, or Allow limited access and select your screenshots.
  • Limited access (Android 14+): Memoshot only sees the screenshots you selected. New screenshots aren’t added automatically; tap Choose more on the home-screen banner, or switch to full access.
  • Access denied by mistake: if Android no longer shows the permission dialog, open the permission in Android settings as above.
  • Memoshot doesn’t need and never asks for access to videos, location, contacts or all files.

Restoring screenshots you removed

  • Android 11 and later: removed screenshots are in Android’s trash for about 30 days. In Memoshot, open Cleanup → Recently trashed and tap Restore (or Restore all). Your gallery app’s trash or bin works too.
  • Android 8 to 10: there is no system trash, so confirmed deletions are permanent. Check the list carefully before you confirm.

Restoring Pro

  • Make sure the Play Store uses the same Google account you bought Pro with, then open Memoshot. Pro is restored automatically.
  • Still showing ads? Open the Pro screen and tap Restore purchase, and check that you’re online.
  • A purchase marked “pending” (for example cash or bank payments) unlocks once Google Play confirms the payment.
  • Refunds are handled by Google Play: open your order in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Budget & history, or use Google Play’s refund request page.
  • To change your ad consent: Memoshot → Settings → Privacy choices (shown where a consent choice applies, such as the EEA, UK, Switzerland and some US states).
  • To reset or delete your advertising ID: Android Settings → Privacy → Ads (on some phones Settings → Google → Ads).
  • Pro removes all ads.

Reporting a bug

  1. Write down what you did, what you expected and what happened instead.
  2. Add your phone model, Android version and app version.
  3. Send it to TODO_SUPPORT_EMAIL or use Settings → Send feedback.

Please don’t attach screenshots that contain private information (codes, bank details, chats, addresses). If a picture helps, use a test screenshot or cover private parts first. We never need your real screenshots to fix a bug.
