Memoshot for Android
Privacy Policy
In short: Memoshot reads your screenshots on your phone. Your screenshots, the text read from them, their categories and your searches are never uploaded, and Dvexo has no server and no account system for the app. In the free version, Google’s ad and consent services receive device and advertising data to show ads. Google Play handles purchases. Google’s text-recognition library sends usage and error statistics (never images or text).
1. Who we are
Memoshot (package app.memoshot) is developed and published on Google Play by Dvexo, based in Bangladesh. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Dvexo, and “the app” means Memoshot for Android.
Postal address:
Privacy questions: TODO_SUPPORT_EMAIL.
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains what data the Memoshot Android app accesses, what stays on your phone, what is sent to other companies and why, and the choices you have. It also covers this website (section 15). It applies to the free version and to Memoshot Pro.
3. What the app accesses
- Screenshots. With your permission, the app reads the images in your phone’s screenshot folders. With Pro, it also reads folders you add yourself. It does not read videos or other photos.
- Full or partial access. On Android 14 and later you can allow access to all photos or only to photos you select; the app then only sees the screenshots you selected. You can change this any time in Android’s settings.
- Image details that Android provides with each screenshot: file name, folder, date taken, size and dimensions. They are used to sort and show your screenshots and stay on the phone.
- App lock (optional). If you turn it on, Android shows its own unlock screen (fingerprint, face or your screen lock). The app only learns whether unlocking succeeded; it never receives fingerprints, face data or your PIN.
The app does not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, calls, messages or account information.
4. How your screenshots are processed
- Text recognition (OCR) runs on your phone with a model built into the app. It works in airplane mode.
- Categories (codes, receipts, tickets, chats, products, other), the codes, amounts and dates found in the text, cleanup suggestions and search are all computed on the phone.
- We have no server for the app. Your screenshots, the text read from them, categories, favorites, search history and cleanup choices are never sent to us or to anyone else.
- There is no account and no sign-in.
- When you choose to share a screenshot, export text (Pro) or open a link, phone number, email address or calendar date found in a screenshot, Android passes it to the app you pick. What happens next is governed by that app.
5. What is stored on your phone
| Data | Where | In phone backups? |
|---|---|---|
| Index: text read from screenshots, categories, codes/amounts/dates found, favorites, cleanup decisions | The app’s private database | No: excluded from cloud backup and device-to-device transfer. After a restore, the app reads your screenshots again. |
| Settings and recent searches: theme, app lock, cleanup rules, added folders, whether you bought Pro, ad frequency counters, your last searches | The app’s private settings file | No (excluded the same way) |
| Thumbnails and text exports you create (Pro) | The app’s cache | No (caches are never backed up) |
| Consent choices and data kept by Google’s ad and consent SDKs | The SDKs’ private storage inside the app | May be included in your Android backup, depending on your phone’s backup settings |
Private app storage can’t be read by other apps. Your screenshots themselves stay where they are in your gallery; the app never copies or uploads them.
6. Permissions and why
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Photos and images (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES; on Android 8–12 READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) | Read your screenshots to recognize their text. Core function of the app. |
| Selected photos (READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED, Android 14+) | Lets you give access to selected screenshots only. |
| Storage write (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 8–10 only) | Delete screenshots you confirmed in Cleanup. On Android 11+ removal goes through Android’s own trash dialog. |
| Biometrics (USE_BIOMETRIC, USE_FINGERPRINT) | Optional app lock, through Android’s unlock screen. |
| Internet and network state | Ads and consent (free version), Google Play purchases, and the text-recognition library’s statistics (section 7). |
| Run at startup, keep awake (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED, WAKE_LOCK) | Resume reading new screenshots in the background after a restart. |
| Google Play billing | Buy and restore Pro. |
| Advertising ID (AD_ID) and Android ad-services permissions | Added by the Google Mobile Ads SDK for ads, ad measurement and fraud prevention (free version). |
7. Third-party services and what they receive
None of these services receives your screenshots or the text read from them.
Google AdMob and Google’s consent tool (free version)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Before any ad is requested, Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) checks whether consent is required where you live and, if so, asks for it. These Google SDKs collect and share with Google, for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention, according to Google’s published disclosure:
- device and other identifiers, such as the Android advertising ID and app set ID;
- your IP address, which may be used to estimate your general location;
- interactions with ads and the app (for example app launches, ad views and taps);
- diagnostics about app and SDK performance;
- device and app information (model, Android version, language, app version) and your consent choices.
The data is encrypted in transit. Google uses it under its own policies: Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Google’s ad technology partners may also receive data where you have consented to them; the list is in the consent form.
Google Play Billing (Pro)
Pro is bought through Google Play. Google processes your payment; we never see your card or payment details. The app receives from Google Play only what is needed to unlock Pro: the product, a purchase token, the purchase state and time. It checks them on the phone and remembers that Pro is active. In the Google Play Console we can see order information that Google provides to developers (such as the order number, product, price, country and date); we use it only for refunds, support and accounting. Google’s privacy policy applies to the purchase: policies.google.com/privacy.
Google ML Kit text recognition
Text is recognized by Google’s ML Kit library, which runs on the phone. According to Google’s ML Kit data disclosure, the library sends Google usage and diagnostic statistics: device information (manufacturer, model, Android version), the app’s name and version, a per-installation identifier, performance figures (such as processing time), settings such as image format and size, and error codes. It does not send the images or the recognized text. Google encrypts this data in transit and says it does not transfer it to third parties. We don’t receive this data. Details: ML Kit data disclosure.
Links you open
Links in the app (this website, Google Play, a battery-settings guide) open in your browser, which handles them under its own policies. The app itself doesn’t load web pages.
8. Advertising, cookies and identifiers
The app has no cookies of its own. In the free version, Google and, where you consented, its partners may use the advertising ID and similar identifiers (and, in web views shown by ads, cookies or web beacons) to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure them and prevent fraud. Depending on your consent and your location, ads may be personalized or non-personalized (“limited ads”).
We use these Google services as a publisher. We don’t sell your personal data and we don’t receive the advertising data Google collects, other than aggregated reports about ad earnings.
9. Consent and your choices
- EEA, UK and Switzerland: Google’s consent form asks for your choice before ads are requested. You can change it any time in the app: Settings → Privacy choices.
- US states with privacy laws (such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others): you can opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising through Settings → Privacy choices when it is shown for your region.
- Advertising ID: reset or delete it in Android settings (usually Settings → Privacy → Ads, or Google → Ads). Deleting it stops personalized ads based on it.
- No ads: buying Pro removes ads; the ad SDK then no longer requests ads.
- Photo access: change or remove it in Android settings → Apps → Memoshot → Permissions.
- Backups: the index and settings are never included in backups (section 5).
10. Legal bases (EEA, UK, Switzerland)
On-device processing of your screenshots is not sent to us, so we hold none of that data. For data handled through the services above, the legal bases are: consent for personalized ads and for storing or accessing information on your device where required (collected by Google’s consent form); legitimate interests in showing non-personalized ads to fund the free app, preventing ad fraud, and keeping the app reliable (ML Kit diagnostics); and performance of a contract for buying and restoring Pro.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or US state laws) you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data-protection authority. Because the app keeps your data only on your phone and we have no account system, you can exercise most of these rights directly: see section 14. For data held by Google, use Google’s privacy controls or contact Google. For anything else, write to TODO_SUPPORT_EMAIL; we answer within 30 days.
12. Children
Memoshot is a general productivity app for adults and is not directed to children. Its target audience on Google Play is users aged 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that sent data to the services above, contact us and we will help.
13. Security
- Your index and settings live in the app’s private storage, which Android isolates from other apps, and are excluded from backups.
- Data sent by the Google SDKs is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
- The app never writes the content of your screenshots to logs.
- An optional app lock protects the app with your fingerprint, face or screen lock, and can hide the app’s content in the recent-apps view.
No method of storage or transmission is completely secure; keeping your phone locked and updated helps protect the data on it.
14. Retention and deletion
- On your phone: the index is kept until you clear it or uninstall the app. When a screenshot is deleted, its entry is removed from the index.
- Clear everything: in the app, Settings → Clear index deletes all text and categories found (the app will read your screenshots again unless you also remove photo access). Uninstalling the app, or Android Settings → Apps → Memoshot → Storage → Clear storage, deletes the index, settings and caches.
- Screenshots: the app never deletes screenshots on its own. When you confirm a removal on Android 11 or later, the screenshot goes to Android’s trash and can be restored for about 30 days (in the app’s “Recently trashed” screen or your gallery) before Android deletes it. On Android 8–10, confirmed removals are deleted immediately.
- Held by us: nothing from the app. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to answer you and then deleted, at the latest after 12 months. Purchase records in Google Play Console are kept as long as required for tax and accounting.
- Held by Google: retained and deleted under Google’s policies; you can reset or delete the advertising ID at any time.
Step-by-step instructions: Delete your data.
15. This website
This website has no cookies, no analytics, no ads, no forms and no third-party embeds; fonts and images are served from this site. We don’t collect personal data through it. Our hosting provider processes technical data that every web request carries (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse; we don’t use it to identify or track visitors. If you email us, we use your message only to answer you. Your theme choice (light or dark) is saved in your browser’s local storage and never sent to us.
16. International users
We are based in Bangladesh. Google may process the data described in section 7 in countries other than yours, including the United States, under its own safeguards for international transfers.
17. Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently, we will update this page before the change ships and change the “Last updated” date at the top. Important changes will also be mentioned in the app’s release notes on Google Play.
